I think you’re a fantastic addition to the band - and you’re great to watch, with all that lovely energy you exude when you sing! So glad I got to see you rehearse for a couple of hours when I was visiting - it felt like a private performance just for me and I can relive it by watching the videos I took! ❤️❤️
I have played in bands since I was a teen. I can't imagine not doing it. It is so much fun. I started a new acoustic trio when I was 59, right before Covid hit. After a year and a half break we got together to do some open mics. Then one member suggested we go on TikTok and livestream. We got 700 viewers the first time. So we kept do it weekly. A year later, we have 60k followers and make pretty good tips each week.
It is a different experience than playing live (which we do occasionally), but it is also fun. You get to see viewer comments, which are sort of like applause, and from all over the world. And there is no travel or drunks yelling requests at you. 🤣
Oh, for sure. Maybe their take on “I Heard It Through The Grapevine.” Even though the earlier versions by Gladys Knight and Marvin Gaye are probably better known, I like Fogerty’s slightly sweaty take on this classic by Motown veterans Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong:
Wow, great vocals, solid bass line, ambitious set list. Three sets, really?
Many years ago I saw Petty when he was touring with Dylan. He did this song which is what I always think of when I think of him. I don’t know if it would be a good song to cover, although it does have some great chorus possibilities. It’s so Petty and so Southern Rock, it might be harder to pull off and maybe few in the audience would know it.
Three sets! It’s ambitious but the venue we play at kind of demands it 😅 We like to play there on a Friday nights so we all have the weekend to recover 🤣
Someday I hope to compose and publish my songs in print that I have been humming and writing down, for the piano and cello. Right now, Nanci Arvizu of the Garden of Neuro asked me to design my own quilts for workshops for the Garden and I was absolutely, positively thrilled when I started doing it. I haven't been able to stop, and she along with the Garden of Neuro publishing arm are hoping to publish the instructions and workshops as courses and booklets, too. I became so happy at the thought that I asked her if we could make a Garden of Neuro coffee table book, of quilts, Garden poetry, Garden artwork, and Garden family recipes. With stories. (Garden meaning the women of course.) She is hopeful about that too.
I am hard at work on the first booklet set and workshops. We have to raise money to print all these things. It will be so much fun!
So glad you are having fun with your vocal part in the rock band. I wish my voice didn't crack in my old age, I would so love to sing.
Awesome, Lisa! I sang in a part-time band made up of an attorney, a stockbroker, law school librarian, corporate mediator, and me, full-time mom and teacher. We played mostly country, swing, and turned into an Irish band on St. Patrick's Day (one member was of Irish descent). Music has always been a part of my life, and singing is a joy. Now, I sing mostly in the car--full voice and with enthusiasm. Keep at it and have the time of your life!
That sounds like a wonderful group to sing with! It’s certainly a whole lot of fun 🤘🏼 I love that you sing in the car, full pelt! It’s joyous, belting out tunes on your own. Thanks for responding!

So glad you could come 🌸
Plus poetry and other books I'm writing. It is so much fun being retired.

That’s awesome!! We haven’t thought about doing something like that on SM but it’s a long winter here… so you never know!
Lol! The drunks! Falling on you and yelling! We had 2 people thrown out at the last gig 😂 forgot to say that! They like yelling “play Creedence!” 😂
You gotta play Creedence. 🤓
Hahahaha!

Also a good arrangement for a guitarist. Fogerty’s little guitar solo at the end is basically a 4th unsung verse.
Proud Mary is always a crowd favorite.

Sounds like you’ve got a whole lot going on, and fun things!!! Keep quilting!
