Beautiful reflections Lisa. That word malaise is interesting because one of the dominating symptoms of Long COVID is referred to as PEM, or Post-Exertional Malaise. I’ve come to think that malaise is not quite the right word for the the debilitating fatigue that affects sufferers after using too many spoons of energy. As you write, malaise seems to be a kind of seeping, whereas fatigue is heavy and weighs your body down.

Like you, I found Nick’s letter of this week very moving - as most of his letters are. So exquisitely crafted and the effort that goes into them so obvious. Just like your writing. ♥️♥️

It’s interesting with words. I looked up malaise and some synonyms. I often associated words and their sound with images in my head. Malaise felt like fog. Fatigue feels heavy, more like being stuck in mud. I can almost feel the mud sucking at my arms and legs when I thick about fatigue.

I’m sorry you’ve had to be feeling these things for so long 😔 I still haven’t heard people here talk about long-covid. I might have to start googling.

And Nick Cave is an amazing human. I saw he met Amanda Palmer recently - she wrote about the joy of meeting her idol. 🩶

Thank you 🙏💜
